The natural park of Sierra Nevada is one of the biggest and ecologically richest parks in Colombia but also is a coffee growing land. The coffee growers of this region are recognized because of the high quality coffee they produce using environment responsible practices.
The range of altitudes where the crops of Sierra Nevada are plated is between 900 meters (3000 ft.) to 1,600 meters (5,200 ft.). The lands in these heights have slopes above 50°, some places up to 80°.
The growing of the crops is done under the shade of fruit and native tree species. The growing families of the Sierra Nevada have had an scheme of production environmental friendly, with an additional advantage: They are organized under an association and know and to do their community duties very well since years ago; They have a high compromise with the protection of the “Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta” because it is considered a natural sponge where important rivers flourish and irrigate many provinces of the Atlantic ocean shore. The coffee of Sierra Nevada is considered one of the most mild varieties in the world.
